Turkey has shown a campaign launched by President Abdullah Gul's wife, Mrs. Hayrunnisa Gul, at a UN meeting on disabled rights

GENEVA – The UN Human Rights Council has held a session on disabled rights in Geneva. 

Speaking at the session on behalf of the Turkish Embassy delegation, the Turkish representative presented the campaign “Education overcomes every obstacle” launched by the wife of President Abdullah Gul, Mrs. Hayrunnisa Gul, as an example of the promotion of disabled rights in Turkey.

The representative said Turkey supports the full and effective participation of handicapped people in social life and that those in need of special education are provided for at specialized centers and in public schools so that normal class atmospheres can be experienced.

The Ministry of National Education assists in the transportation of disabled students to schools and the representative added that the participation of disabled students has risen to 90 percent.

The representative emphasized the need for the establishment of Consultation and Coordination Centers for higher and special education of disabled people.
