Communuications minister urges regulator and Twitter to continue contact

ANKARA - Twitter has closed down one of its accounts targeted by a Turkish court order, the country's telecommunications regulator (TIB) said on Saturday.

One account has been suspended, the TIB said in a written statement.

Turkey’s Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications Minister Lutfi Elvan said that he considered the suspension of the account by Twitter as a "positive step." “I believe TIB and Twitter should continue their meetings," he added.

Turkey's internet authority blocked access to Twitter late on Thursday after a court issued an order demanding the website remove tweets containing certain links. Stating that Twitter's management ignored calls from the Turkish government, the authorities described the move as a temporary measure not a ban.
