Turkey's Health Minister Muezzinoglu says sentencing 529 members of Muslim Brotherhood to death is a shame for democracy and humanity.

EDIRNE - Turkey's Health Minister Tuesday condemned the death sentence handed out by court in Egypt to 529 members of the Muslim Brotherhood on Monday.

Mehmet Muezzinoglu on a visit to Turkey's northwestern border province of Edirne said "It is a shame for democracy and humanity."

He said it appeared that civilized and developed countries remain silent on these issues, while intervening in other countries.

"I do not understand why United Nations, European Union and the U.S. watch these events."

The supporters of deposed President Mohamad Morsi, were sentenced to death following an attack on a police station in which an Egyptian police officer was killed.

The trial lasted only two sessions, and has sparked worldwide condemnation.
