RIYADH – Saudi Prince Maqrin bin Abdel-Aziz was named deputy crown prince on Thursday.

Under a royal order issued by King Abdullah bin Abdel-Aziz, Prince Muqrin, a former intelligence chief, will become the kingdom's next crown prince in case of a vacancy – or the next king if the posts of crown prince and king become vacant simultaneously.

Murqin, a half-brother of King Abdullah, currently serves as second deputy prime minister.
