BENGHAZI – A Libyan army officer was killed and another injured in two separate Thursday attacks in the eastern city of Benghazi, a security source said.
Fouad Ayyad al-Arfi was gunned down by unidentified assailants in Benghazi's Al-Baraka district, the source said.
Elsewhere in the same city, Col. Mustafa al-Qan was injured in a failed attempt on his life, the security source added.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for either attack.
Benghazi, the second largest city in Libya, has been a hotbed of violence since the fall of the Muammar Gaddafi regime in 2011. Since then, Libya has struggled to restore order.
