Former army chief and presidential hopeful Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi said Thursday that he will not draft an unreal program for his bid to run for Egypt's president
CAIRO – Former army chief and presidential hopeful Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi said Thursday that he will not draft an "unreal" program for his bid to run for Egypt's president.
"I will not draft an unreal electoral program," al-Sisi said in statements to the private Al-Watan newspaper.
"The program will be realistic and applicable and will be accompanied by a timeframe," he said, going on to say that he will communicate with the citizens to review his electoral program.
On Wednesday, al-Sisi resigned and announced his intention to run for president in the nation's elections, whose date has not yet been set.
Al-Sisi had led the army to unseat elected president Mohamed Morsi, a Muslim Brotherhood leader, last summer following massive protests against his administration.
While supporters see Islamist president see his ouster as a "military coup", opponents term it a "military-backed revolution".
