Soultan says the regime's attack in Aleppo killed only civilians, amid civil efforts to recover bodies from under debris
ALEPPO, Syria - Fifteen civilians were killed and dozens wounded after a barrel-bomb attack by the Syrian regime in Aleppo’s countryside on Tuesday, according to a local activist.
Moustafa Soultan told The Anadolu Agency that many houses were destroyed or damaged in the town of Maaret al-Artik where the attack took place.
"All of those killed in the attack were civilians and there was not even one armed opponent among them," he said.
Civil defense groups were trying to rescue those still alive under the debris and recover dead bodies, he added.
Soultan said the regime had dropped five barrel-bombs in the town before.
Syria has been in turmoil since 2011 when a peaceful uprising against President Bashar al-Assad escalated into civil war following a violent regime crackdown.
