BAGHDAD – Joint Iraqi army and police forces on Wednesday killed 11 militants affiliated with the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) in the northern Nineveh province, the command of the joint operation said.
In a statement, the command said joint forces had raided several areas of provincial capital Mosul, killing 11 militants and arresting 31 suspected terrorists.
Those arrested were taken to a security center for interrogation, the statement said.
Recent months have seen an uptick in violence across Iraq. Although most attacks go unclaimed, Iraqi authorities usually point the finger at Al-Qaeda-linked militants.
Since last December, when the ISIL seized control of parts of the western Anbar province, Iraqi government troops have been battling the militants.
