Jordan jails 9 militants for 'chemical' attack plot

AMMAN – A Jordanian court on Wednesday slapped nine people with 20-year jail terms each for plotting a chemical attack on the Jordanian intelligence headquarters in 2005, a judicial source said.

Azmi al-Jioushi, the chief of the militant Al-Tawhid Brigade, and eight members had been found guilty of possessing weapons and explosives and plotting to carry out "terrorist acts".

The defendants had been accused of plotting chemical attacks on the Jordanian intelligence headquarters, the cabinet premises and the U.S. embassy in 2005.
