Prominent Muslim scholar dies in Saudi Arabia

CAIRO – Prominent Muslim scholar Muhammad Qutb died in Saudi Arabia on Friday, where he lived in exile.

The Egyptian scholar died in a hospital in Jeddah and he will be laid to rest on Saturday.

Born in Egypt in 1919, Muhammad has authored several books on Islamic thought.

His elder brother Sayyid Qutb was an Egyptian author, Islamist theorist and a leading member of the Muslim Brotherhood.

The two brothers had been arrested in Egypt for allegedly plotting to kill senior Egyptian figures.

While his brother Sayyid Qutb was executed in 1966, Muhammad was released from prison in 1972 and took refuge with other members of the Muslim Brotherhood in Saudi Arabia.
