SANAA – An ally of Yemen's Houthi Shiite militant group survived a Tuesday attempt on his life in Sanaa that left two companions dead, a source from within his political party said.

Ibrahim al-Wazir, a leader of Yemen's Al-Haq Party, which is allied with the Houthis, was injured when his car came under fire in central Sanaa, the source, preferring anonymity, told Anadolu Agency.

Two of al-Wazir's companions were killed in Tuesday's attack, the source added.

Al-Haq is one of six parties that made up the Joint Meeting coalition, which is represented by half of the government drawn up in line with a 2011 deal that transferred power from long-serving president Ali Abdullah Saleh to his deputy – now President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi – following mass anti-government protests.
