Atletico Madrid knock Barcelona out of UEFA CL

ANKARA - The quarter final phase in UEFA Champions League ended after the second leg matches were played on Wednesday night.
Catalan giants Barcelona, regarded as one of the odds-on favourites in the UEFA Champions League, have been eliminated by another Spanish La Liga team Atletico Madrid known as "Atleti" on Wednesday. Atletico Madrid's 22-year-old Spanish attacking midfielder Koke's single goal in the early minutes made Atleti reach the semi-finals for the first time in 40 years. Turkish star of Atleti, Arda Turan did not play in this match due to a groin strain.
England's Chelsea defeated Paris Saint-Germain from France in London 2-0 on Tuesday. Scorers for Chelsea were German forward, Andre Schurrle and Senegalese central forward, Demba Ba, resulting in "the Blues" eliminating Parisian giants on away goals.
The match between German team, Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid in the second leg became tense with Borussia Dortmund having ample chance of a comeback with their German winger Marco Reus' brace. However, Real Madrid who won the first leg match 3-0 managed to advance to the semis despite the 2-0 loss in Germany.
Last season's UEFA Champions League winners Bayern Munich knocked England's Manchester United out of the tournament by toppling them 3-1 at home on Wednesday.The "Red Devils" did not manage to escape from their German opponents in Munich despite scoring the opening goal with their French left-back Patrice Evra in the 57th minute of play. "Die Bayern" made a quick rebound with Croatian forward Mario Mandzukic in the 59th minute. The German giants' second goal scored by Thomas Muller and the Dutch winger Arjen Robben's goal determined the result of the game, 3-1.

UEFA Champions League semi final draws will be made on April 11.
