Myanmar opposition leader meets German President Gauck, on the first day of her visit to Berlin
BERLIN – Myanmar opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi begun a visit to Germany on Thursday.
Suu Kyi, who remained under house arrest for more than a decade in Myanmar, was received by German President Joachim Gauck at the Bellevue Palace in Berlin.
They spoke about the developments in Myanmar.
Aung San Suu Kyi is also to set to meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
Suu Kyi will receive the International Willy Brandt Prize on Friday. The prize is given by Germany’s Social Democratic Party (SPD) to persons or institutions for their distinguished contribution to international understanding between people.
