SANAA – An intelligence officer was shot dead and another badly injured in a Monday attack by unidentified militants in Yemeni capital Sanaa, a security source said.
"The militants were on a motorcycle when they opened fire on Lt. Col. Abdel-Rahman al-Nagdi, who was killed on the spot," the source said.
He added that Lt. Gen. Mohamed al-Eriej, who had been walking with al-Nagdi, had been injured by the gunfire and was now in "very critical" condition.
The source, who asked not to be named, said the militants had fled immediately after the attack.
Anadolu Agency could not obtain immediate comment from the Yemeni authorities on Monday's shooting.
Yemen has struggled to maintain law and order since the 2012 ouster of autocratic president Ali Abdullah Saleh.
