ANKARA - Turkey's Foreign Ministry welcomed the agreement between rival Palestinian factions Hamas and Fatah, who are to form a national unity government, Thursday.
The ministry declared it's hope for establishing peace with forming of a new government that "embraces all Palestinians" after the elections.
In its statement, the ministry also reiterated Turkey's support for the Palestinian people.
Ties have been strained between Hamas, which governs the Gaza Strip, and Fatah, which runs the Palestinian Authority, since 2007 when Hamas routed pro-Fatah forces and seized control of the entire strip.
The continued conflict saw both factions set up rival governments in Gaza and Ramallah in the West Bank.
