Portugal's Benfica beat favourites Juventus 2-1 with late goal scored by Lima
ANKARA - Portugal's Benfica took a lead in their UEFA Europa League semifinal by defeating tournament favorites Juventus 2-1 in their Lisbon home ground Estadio da Luz on Thursday night.
Benfica took an early lead when their Argentina centre-back Ezequiel Garay scored a headed goal in the third minute of play. Turin's Juventus equalised with Carlos Tevez finding the net in the 73rd minute but Benfica regained the lead with a late goal from their striker Lima's.
Two Spanish teams Sevilla and Valencia met in Seville. Sevilla cruised past Valencia 2-0 with two goals in quick succession; scored by Cameroonian defensive midfielder Stephane Mbia in the 33rd minute and Colombian forward Carlos Bacca in the 36th minute. Sevilla won the Europa league's predecessor, the UEFA Cup, in 2006 and 2007.
