ADDIS ABABA – Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir arrived Friday in the Ethiopian resort town of Bahir Dar, where the 3rd Tana Forum is set to kick off Saturday.
The 3rd Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa is expected to be attended by 120 participants, including African heads of state and government, academics, and representatives of NGOs and regional and continental organizations.
Al-Bashir was welcomed at the Bahir Dar International Airport by Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn and other senior government officials.
The two leaders exchanged views on possible means of enhancing cooperation between the two countries. They also conferred on how best to tackle the crisis in South Sudan, where a deadly conflict has been raging for months.
The two-day forum aims to create a platform for stakeholders to work towards effective African-led solutions to the continent's security challenges, the event's organizers said.
Djiboutian President Omar Guelleh and Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud are among the African leaders due to participate at the forum.
