ANKARA - Turkish construction, mining and energy company, Demir Madencilik AS entered the highest bid of US$ 351 million for Catalagzi thermal power plant (TPP), located in the northern province of Zonguldak on Friday. 

A total of five companies entered the bidding process. The Turkish government will assess the value of the bid and decide whether to approve it or not. Scope of the tender included the privatization of immovables used by the TPP, but does not include the mining sites that supplies coal to the plant.

Two years ago, Seyitomer thermal plant, which has twice the capacity (600 megawatts output capacity), was privatized for $2.2 billion.

Catalagzi thermal plant has two units that produce 150 megawatts each. The first unit was commissioned in 1989 and the second in 1991. The thermal plant uses hard coal to produce energy. There are a total of 22 thermal plants in Turkey.
