Spanish La Liga's Villarreal identifies fan throwing banana to Barcelona's Brazilian right-back Dani Alves, and instigates both life ban and cancels club membership

MADRID - Spanish La Liga club Villarreal announced that they identified the fan who threw a banana at Barcelona's Brazilian right-back Dani Alves in a racist gesture during a league match, and cancelled his club membership and banned him from entering their home stadium El Madrigal on Tuesday.

In a written statement by the Spanish club, it said that the club condemns any kind of racism, xenophobia, discrimination and violence and will defend equality, respect and fair play both on the pitch and outside the Villarreal club.

Meanwhile, the entire world continues to protest the racist act against the Brazilian international of Barcelona particularly his teammate Neymar's entries via social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook where he has uploaded photos posing eating a banana, a trend which have been followed by many famous figures and which has turned into a campaign against racism. 

Barcelona's Brazilian flamboyant forward Neymar, Manchester City's Argentine star Sergio Aguero, Brazilian centre-back of Chelsea David Luiz, Brazilian female footballer Marta, former legend of Real Madrid now Turkish team Sivasspor's Brazilian coach Roberto Carlos, Italy National Football Team's coach Cesare Prandelli, several anchor people and many people around the world have shared their photos while eating bananas on social networking sites to support Dani Alves.

In addition, FIFA President Joseph Blatter said that the incident that Dani Alves was subjected to is savageness and they have to fight together against this type of discrimination. He said that they will operate a zero tolerance policy against racism in the World Cup.

Bayern Munich's coach Pep Guardiola stated that Alves is an excellent and cheerful person, and the "banana incident" will only be solved through education.

England's legend Gary Lineker expressed on social networking sites that Alves' response is top class, while Brazilian President said that Alves' reaction is very brave response against racism in sport.

Barcelona's 30-year-old Brazilian right-back Dani Alves ate the banana thrown to him while taking a corner during a La Liga match against Villarreal. Barcelona won the match with a score 3-2 by making a comeback from 2-0 on April 27 in Villarreal's home ground El Madrigal Stadium.
