Several leading clubs in Europe reportedly in pursuit of Fenerbahce's Turkish offensive left-back Caner Erkin
ANKARA - Prestigious clubs in Europe - Chelsea and Liverpool from England and Italy’s Roma - are vying to sign Fenerbahce's Turkish offensive left-back Caner Erkin on a free transfer at the end of the season.
British newspaper Daily Star claimed on Wednesday that the teams have been competing against each other to sign the 25-year-old whose contract is to expire on June 30.
Erkin’s agent, Batur Altiparmak confirmed the offers and said he was glad at the interest.
Roma are also rumored to be interested in adding Erkin’s 20-year-old Turkish teammate Salih Ucan to their squad.
Current leaders in the English Premier League, Liverpool are eager to have Erkin for added squad depth ahead of the UEFA Champions League – Europe’s top-tier football competition - next year.
Chelsea are chasing Erkin too since their regular left-back Ashley Cole might leave the London club at the end of the season.
Fenerbahce's Turkish offensive left-back Caner Erkin is a regular on the Turkish national team. He scored 3 goals and made 13 assists in 28 Turkish Spor Toto Super League matches this season, garnering attention from top European clubs.
