BAGHDAD – Polling stations across Iraq closed Wednesday after millions of voters had cast their ballot in the country's first parliamentary elections since the withdrawal of U.S. troops three years ago.
Polling stations closed at 15:00 GMT.
Around 20 million Iraqi voters were eligible to elect 328 lawmakers.
The vote took place amid myriad security challenges inside Iraq, particularly in the western and northern parts of the country, where since last December government troops have battled militant groups that Baghdad says are linked to Al-Qaeda.
