Karachi airport security officials recover bullets and a gun in U.S. national's luggage.
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - Pakistan’s airport security officials arrested a U.S. citizen at the airport in Karachi on Monday, recovering bullets and a pistol from his luggage, authorities said.
The U.S. national, identified as Joel Cox, was travelling from Karachi to Islamabad via a Pakistan International Airlines flight, a handout issued by the Airport Security Force said.
“During the searching of his luggage, a 9mm pistol and 15 bullets were recovered,” the statement said.
Rao Anwar Ahmed, a city police chief, told Anadolu Agency that a case had been lodged against the suspect, who would be brought before a court on Tuesday.
The case was lodged against the U.S. citizen after he could not prove his diplomatic immunity, Rao added.
Andrew Armstrong, a spokesman for the U.S. Consulate in Karachi, told AA that the U.S. embassy officials were in contact with Pakistani authorities to deal with the issue.
