ANKARA - Yapi Merkezi and STFA, Turkey's two leading construction companies, have won the tender for the Gold Line of the Doha Metro, a sprawling transport network prepared for FIFA 2022 World Cup to be held in Qatar.
The 4.4 billion tender is the most expensive ever won by Turkish contractors abroad.
According to Qatar Rail, which oversees the construction of a national integrated railway network, the Gold Line will cross the city east to west with over 30 km of tunnels and thirteen underground stations.
The Doha Metro is planned as comprising four lines: Red, Gold, Green and Blue. Only the tenders for the Gold, Green and Red Lines have been held so far.
Qatar Rail says the Doha Metro is projected to span a length of nearly 216 km and will have approximately 100 stations over the four lines.
About 200 billion dollars’ worth of projects are under construction or planned in Qatar, funded largely by added production in the country’s gas fields.
Qatar is the world’s largest exporter of liquefied natural gas. The World Cup organization indicates a natural deadline for the completion of most of its big projects.
