MARDIN - A Turkish director wins best documentary award for his short film about a Turkish Assyrian man whose mother left him aged ten at a monastery in south east Turkey before she went to Syria with her two daughters.
The documentary film, "Guest," was held at Turkish Inonu University in Malatya on Tuesday. The film documents the life of Captain Cercis, also nicknamed "Bahe" and his 68-year wait for his mother's return.
The film was directed by Haydar Demirtas and released in four languages; Turkish, Kurdish, Arabic and Syriac.
It is believed Cercis's mother left him due to economic problems.
