ALGIERS – Algerian army forces have killed two "terrorists" in the northern Boumerdes province, the Defense Ministry said Tuesday.
In a statement, the ministry said the two militants had been killed in an army ambush, adding that a cache of weapons had been seized.
Algeria's northern provinces are said to be strongholds for militants associated with the "Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb" group.
A total of 36 "terrorists" were killed in Algeria between January and March of this year, according to the Defense Ministry.
Some 220 militants were killed in Algeria last year, according to unofficial estimates by the Commission for Truth, Peace and Reconciliation, a local NGO.
