BENGHAZI, Libya – Two members of Libyan Special Forces were gunned down in the eastern city of Benghazi on Thursday, a security source has said.

The two were fatally shot – in the head and face respectively – by unidentified militants, the source told Anadolu Agency.

Thursday's killings were the latest in a spate of attacks on army and police personnel in the restive city.

Libyan authorities have struggled to restore order since the ouster and death of strongman Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, with the armed militias that helped overthrow Gaddafi refusing to give up their weapons.
