Serbia declares state of emergency in 13 regions
SARAJEVO – One firefighter died during the evacuation of more than 270 people, including women and children, from flooding which has reached 13 provinces in Serbia, and damage from flooding is also reported in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Hundreds of houses and thousands of hectares of lands remain under water, as heavy rains resulted in flooding in the Balkans.
Serbia declared a state of emergency in 13 regions, while the Serbian National Emergency Council will hold a crisis meeting to be chaired by Prime Minister Alexander Vucic.
Many people in the Bosnian cities of Zenitsa, Olovo, Maglay, Zavidovici, Doboy and Kanay are waiting on their rooftops for evacuation.
The Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina have deployed armed forces for rescue operations.
