Turkish main opposition party demands the setting up of an investigation committee on the coal mine disaster in western Turkey
ANKARA - Turkey's main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) on Thursday demands the setting up of an investigation committee within parliament on the coal mine tragedy which occurred in western Turkey on Tuesday.
CHP's MP Hasan Oren submitted a petition to the parliament speaker's office, demanding that the tradegy in Soma be investigated and those responsible for the tragedy be identified.
"We submit a petition for a parliamentary investigation to find permanent solutions in the prevention of mine accidents," Oren wrote in his petition.
The death toll from Tuesday's coal mine disaster in western Turkey has reached 282, energy minister Taner Yildiz said Thursday morning.
