DONETSK – Alexander Borodai was elected Prime Minister of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic in Ukraine on Friday.
Borodai received the most votes in the third session of the Supreme Council, the self-proclaimed republic's legislature established by pro-Russian separatists in a Ukrainian government building.
The region of Donetsk declared its independence from Ukraine after holding a “self-rule” referendum on May 11 instigated by pro-Russian separatists. However, the Ukrainian government and Western nations have refused to recognize this newly declared federation.
