UN sends more aid to Syria via Turkey

GENEVA - The World Food Programme has begun moving more food supplies via Turkey into northern Syria through the Nusaybin border crossing point.

According to the programme’s spokesperson, Elisabeth Byrs, this aid will assist displaced people who cut off food supplies in the Hasaki governorate.

A convoy of 34 trucks has carried 796 tons of food, enough to feed 58,000 people for one month.

Byrs added that the programme needs to raise about US$48 million per week to help the people affected by the conflict in Syria.
