CAIRO – The Arab League on Saturday appointed Palestinian diplomat Nasser al-Qudwa as a special envoy to Libya.

"Al-Qudwa will be responsible for the Libyan file and will monitor developments in the Arab country," an aide to Arab League Secretary-General Nabil al-Arabi told Anadolu Agency.

Al-Qudwa's appointment was approved by Libyan Foreign Minister Mohamed Abdel-Aziz during his current visit to Cairo, where the headquarters of the Arab League is located.

Libya has been suffering internal turmoil since the revolution that toppled ex-strongman Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.

Al-Qudwa is a former foreign minister and a member of Fatah, which rules the occupied West Bank.
