The Charlotte Bobcats return to their roots and become the Hornets again
ANKARA - The Charlotte Hornets are back in the National Basketball Association.
The basketball team officially changed its name from Bobcats back to Hornets on Wednesday, according to the statement made on the NBA's website.
“It is a historic day for their team, city and fans,” said team owner Michael Jordan - also widely considered as the best basketball player to ever play the game - in a release.
The Hornets used to play in Charlotte between 1988 and 2002 in an arena - whose attendance numbers were among the best in the NBA - known as “The Hive”, before moving to New Orleans and becoming the Pelicans. In 2004, Charlotte earned a new team in the Bobcats.
Michael Jordan indicated that he wanted the name change more than a year ago. The NBA administrative board approved the change in July 2013.
