LEFKOSA, TRNC - World-renowned British rock band Deep Purple performed in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus on May 24, in a concert organized to mark the 25th founding anniversary of the Near East University.
The event attracted thousands of Turkish Cypriots, as well as around 20,000 Greek Cypriot fans from the southern region.
Taking security measures for the concert, the university also provided accommodation in tents for fans from neighboring districts and abroad.
The Greek Cypriot administration reportedly attempted to prevent the concert from taking place on the Turkish side of the island. The band responded by announcing the concert would go ahead as planned.
