MAZAR-I-SHARIF, Afghanistan – Two soldiers were killed and nine were wounded on Monday after a suicide bomber on a motorcycle hit a bus carrying soldiers and civilian employees, said Afghan Defense Ministry spokesman General Zahir Azim.
He said a man on a motorcycle approached the bus, which was driving past Kabul’s 16th district, and detonated the bomb.
“Two soldiers lost their lives in the attack organized by the Taliban and nine soldiers were wounded and are being treated at the hospital,” said General Azim.
Kabul Police Department spokesman Hasmatullah Estanikzey said the Taliban did not have the strength to fight with Afghan security forces and therefore had resorted to scaring people by organizing such attacks.
Afghan President Hamid Karzai condemned the attack as being against both Islam and humanity in a statement.
