A statement by the Seattle police said a 20-year-old man, who was seriously wounded in the shooting at a science and engineering building on the campus, died shortly after arriving at Harborview Medical Center. A 20-year-old woman was hospitalized with serious injuries and two other men, ages 24 and 22, are in satisfactory condition, it said.

Mayor Ed Murray said: “It’s a day of tragedy and of loss. Once again, the epidemic of gun violence has come to Seattle, an epidemic of gun violence that has haunted this nation.”

Two years ago in another shooting at a cafe in the university district in Seattle, the shooter and five people died.
