BAGHDAD – Two Iraqi policemen were killed and 15 police and army personnel injured in a suicide bombing in the northern city of Mosul on Monday, a security source said.
A tanker exploded near security forces near a hotel in western Mosul, Col. Ghalib al-Taey told Anadolu Agency.
Iraq has seen a marked uptick in violence in recent months.
While the army continues to battle ISIL militants in the western and northern provinces, other areas of Iraq have seen unrelenting bombings, assassinations and attacks on both civilians and security personnel.
The Iraqi government blames the surge in violence on the militant Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL), whom it accuses of being linked to Al-Qaeda.
