SANAA – Shia Houthi militants on Tuesday blew up a police station in northern Yemen's Al-Jawf province, a local official has said.
"The building was blown up in the province's Al-Ghail district," he told Anadolu Agency.
According to the official, the bodies of three slain Houthi militants could be seen lying near the building following clashes with tribesmen.
Earlier this month, a presidential mediation committee brokered a temporary suspension of hostilities between the Yemeni army and Houthi fighters in Al-Jawf.
Al-Jawf is strategically important in that it is located in close proximity to the eastern Maarib province, the center of oil production in Yemen.
The country has been dogged by turmoil since pro-democracy protests forced autocratic president Ali Abdullah Saleh to step down in 2012 after 33 years in power.
