SARAJEVO, Bosnia and Herzegovina - Serbia condemned Tuesday the International Olympic Committee’s decision to fully recognize the Kosovo Olympic Committee.

The Kosovo Olympic Committee got the recognition six-and-a-half years after Kosovo declared independence from Serbia. Kosovo was the 205th national Olympic committee to be recognized.

Minister Ivica Dacic strongly condemned the international committee’s decision and said it was "unacceptable and unprincipled," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

Dacic alleged that the international committee had broken its own principal of recognizing only UN member states.

Kosovo has been recognized by 108 UN member states, but Serbia.

He also said that the international organization, which was dedicated to the development of sport and promotion of understanding and friendship, had now put itself in the position of a political arbiter.

The International Olympic Committee began reviewing applications for the admission of Kosovo five years ago, a year after the southern Serbian province proclaimed independence in 2008.
