BAKU, Azerbaijan - Turkish and Azerbaijani media should work together towards common goals, an Azerbaijani official said on Thursday.

Ali Hasanov, head of the Political and Public Affairs Department at the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration, was speaking at a conference on the transition from traditional to online media in Turkey and Azerbaijan.

Kicking off on Thursday in Baku, capital of Azerbaijan, the conference hosted a number of Turkish and Azerbaijani media authorities and journalists including Senol Goka, Director General of the state-run Turkish Radio and Television Corporation TRT, and Ebubekir Sahin, acting Director General of The Anadolu Agency.

Hasanov pointed out that presidents Ilham Aliyev, of Azerbaijan, and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, of Turkey, have also been working together to the benefit of both countries.

He argued that most news published by foreign media on events in Muslim countries does not reflect the reality.

He emphasized the need for more successful media organizations which can be the true voice of the Islamic world.

In his address, TRT Director General Goka mainly talked about the transition period from traditional to online media.

New media is highly popular nowadays, but traditional media is much more effective, he said.

AA's Acting Director General Sahin underlined the same issue, saying new media has created problems such as disinformation, information pollution, slander and inaccurate statements.

He also told the attendees about AA’s progress and developments in terms of adaptation to the digital revolution and keeping up to date with information technologies.

"We will keep on using all the opportunities that technology offers in order to become the voice of Turkey as well as our brother country Azerbaijan, and other suffering nations, against the dominant global media powers which are the voice of the strong," he added.
