EU seeks to revive Bosnia's membership bid

BRUSSELS - Foreign Ministers of the European Union agreed Monday to revive Bosnia and Herzegovina’s bid to join the 28-nation bloc.

However, EU is expecting leaders of Bosnia and Herzegovina to undertake legal, social and economic reforms in the framework of the EU accession process.

"There will be work starting tomorrow to draft and agree on a written declaration, a written commitment from the side of the presidency, of the leadership of the different parties and a vote in the parliament [in Bosnia and Herzegovina]," EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said in Brussels on Monday.

''We believe with positive mood and discussion that this could be a turning point in the way of Bosnia and Herzegovina towards the European Union,'' Mogherini said.

''All the western Balkans are European countries. We need to make sure they move towards that direction,'' Mogherini said.
