Turkey consumes 47.8 billion cubic meters of natural gas in 2014

ANKARA - Turkey’s natural gas consumption soared by 5.7 percent reaching 47.8 billion cubic meters in 2014, official sources, who asked not to be named, told The Anadolu Agency on Friday. 

Natural gas consumption has been increasing continuously in Turkey due to the country's developing economy, industry and increasing population.

Natural gas plants also had the highest share in the total electricity production with 46.7 percent, followed by coal plants with 27.5 percent.

Turkey consumed 45.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas in 2013 and used 45.8 percent of it for electricity production, 25.1 percent in industry and 20.8 percent for household usage, according to 2013's data of the Turkish Energy Market Regulatory Authority, EMRA’s website.
