Turkish president arrives in Somalia

MOGADISHU - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived in Somali capital, Mogadishu, on Sunday as part of his official visit to the Horn of Africa.

Erdogan was welcomed by Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke, and Turkey’s ambassador to Somalia Olgan Bekar.

Turkey's president decided to visit Somalia despite a bomb exploding near a hotel in Mogadishu where a Turkish delegation was staying.

Erdogan and Health Minister Mehmet Muezzinoglu will attend the official opening of a training and research hospital, built by Turkey's international cooperation agency TIKA.

The president is also accompanied by his wife and daughter, Emine and Sumeyye Erdogan, as well as Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmus, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci, Science and Industry Minister Fikri Isik, and Forestry and Water Minister Veysel Eroglu.
