Iran: American journalist to be tried soon

TEHRAN – Washington Post journalist Jason Rezaei, jailed in Iran since last July on security charges, will soon go on trial, according to IRNA, Iran's official news agency, on Wednesday.

"American journalist Jason Rezaei will be put on trial in Iran soon," Director General of Tehran Province Justice Department Gholam-Hossein Esmaili told reporters.

The final verdict will be announced at the end of the legal procedures, Esmaili said, according to IRNA. 

The official added that Rezaei, who is currently in detention, has been in touch with his family since his arrest.

The Iranian-born American journalist was arrested on July 22, 2014 on security charges along with his wife, Yeganeh Salehi, who was released on Oct. 6, 2014.
