At least 7 dead in explosion at Mexican children's hospital

MEXICO CITY – At least seven people were killed by a gas explosion at a children’s hospital in Mexico City on Thursday.

Four children were among the dead and at least 54 others were injured in the blast, including 22 children, according to the mayor of Cuajimalpa, Miguel Angle Mancera.

All of the victims were transferred to other hospitals.

‘’We make a call to all hospitals of the neighborhood. But we don’t have enough ambulances.” Mancera said in an appeal for help.

Most of victims were “injured by shards of glass” while others suffered panic attacks, the mayor said.

The explosion is believed to have occurred as a worker refueled the hospital with gas and a tube in poor condition separated.

“At least 30 percent, 40 percent of the hospital has been destroyed,” said the mayor.
