Israeli forces detain W. Bank Palestinians: Army

JERUSALEM – The Israeli army on Wednesday said it had detained several Palestinians – while confiscating funds and weapons it claimed belonged to Hamas – in overnight raids conducted in the northern West Bank.

An unspecified number of Palestinians were detained in possession of Hamas cash and weapons, along with 14 other "wanted" Palestinians, the Israeli army said on Twitter.

The army did not say where the detentions had taken place, but according to Israeli radio, raids were conducted in the northern West Bank city of Jenin.

Hamas, for its part, has yet to officially comment on the allegations.

Israeli forces routinely conduct arrest campaigns against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank on claims that the latter are "wanted" by Israeli authorities.

Over 7,000 Palestinians are currently languishing in Israeli prisons, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Prisoners' Affairs.
