Qatari emir receives Iraqi president

DOHA – Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani on Wednesday received visiting Iraqi President Fuad Masum.

Talks touched on bilateral relations, along with regional and international issues of mutual concern, Qatar's official QNA news agency reported.

The visit came following months of tension between Doha and Baghdad after the government of former Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Maliki accused Qatar of supporting "terrorist groups" in Iraq.

Iraq's current administration, however, is trying to win Arab and international support for its ongoing war against the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) militant group.

Last year, the ISIL captured large swathes of both Iraq and Syria.

Since August of last year, the U.S. has been leading a multinational aerial campaign against the ISIL in both countries.
