JULY 3

Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit said that people who wanted his resignation can overthrow him, while the discussions for his resignation from Prime Ministry due to his illness were still continuing.

JULY 7

State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Devlet Bahceli suggested holding early elections on November 3 in ''11th Kocayayla Turkmen General Assembly'' which was held in Keles township by Bursa provincial organization of his party.

JULY 8

Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit met with State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Husamettin Ozkan who had strained relations. The meeting which was held in Prime Ministry Official Residence lasted one hour.
Ozkan who proceeded to Prime Ministry Headquarters announced that he resigned from Democratic Left Party (DSP) and his mission in government.
Culture Minister Istemihan Talay, State Minister Mustafa Yilmaz, State Minister Recep Onal and State Minister Hasan Gemici also resigned after Ozkan. Then, the resignations of deputies from DSP started.

JULY 10

Foreign Minister Ismail Cem and National Education Minister Metin Bostancioglu resigned from their missions and Democratic Left Party (DSP).

JULY 11

State Minister Kemal Dervis said that he resigned with the request of Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit and added that he later asked for the cancellation of his resignation with the request of President and Prime Minister.

JULY 15

Resignations speeded up in Democratic Left Party (DSP). The number of resigned deputies reached 53.

Motherland Party (ANAP) leader, State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz said that the government turned into an election government and added that they were positive for early elections as soon as possible on the condition that European Union bills were accepted.

JULY 16

A total of six deputies resigned from Democratic Left Party (DSP). Coalition government lost sufficient number of seats to win vote of confidence in the Parliament.

JULY 21

Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit said that ''regime problem'' could start in the country if Justice and Development Party (AK Party) would rank the first and People's Democracy Party (HADEP) would exceed the threshold in the elections.

JULY 22

Those who resigned from Democratic Left Party (DSP) formed a new party which was represented in the Parliament. New Turkey Party (YTP) was formed under the leadership of Ismail Cem by the participation of 63 deputies.

JULY 23

A total of 12 people died due to torrential rains in Sefaatli and Yerkoy townships of central Yozgat Province, Sungurlu township of Corum province in Black Sea region and eastern Kars, northern Tokat, northwestern Sakarya and central Sivas provinces.

Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit said that almost all the parties agreed for early elections and added that it was meaningless for them to object early election only by themselves.

JULY 25

Death toll increased to 35 in Rize, Yozgat, Corum, Tokat, Kars and Mus provinces after the flood disaster.

JULY 31

Parliamentary General Assembly decided to hold the general elections on November 3, 2002. Only the Democratic Left Party (DSP) objected the general elections. While 449 MPs cast their in favor of holding the general elections 62 MPS cast their votes against it.
