OCTOBER 1 The parliament recessed again by a decision taken by 191 votes against 170 votes cast by ''resentful deputies'' of Felicity Party (SP), Motherland Party (ANAP) and New Turkey Party (YTP). Therefore, the initiative to postpone early elections were unsuccessful. OCTOBER 8 The Constitutional Court rejected the application of Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) which requested the Court to stop the execution of certain provisions of the EU Adjustment Law including the provision that lifted death penalty except in cases of war or imminent threat of war. OCTOBER 9 Hezbollah terrorist organization's member Abdulkadir Aktas who was involved in the assassination of former Diyarbakir Security Director Gaffar Okkan was captured. OCTOBER 16 The suspects of the torture case known as ''case of youngsters of Manisa'' in which ten policemen were tried, were sentenced to imprisonment terms changing between 60 and 130 months. The case lasted for seven years. The court asked the prime minister, four ministers and two bureaucrats of the 55th government to pay compensation worth of 500 million liras each to Bergama mayor Sefa Taskin and 69 peasants who accused the former government officials of not abiding by the decision of the Council of State No. 6. OCTOBER 19 AK Party leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan resigned from his party's founding board. OCTOBER 23 Chief Prosecutor of the Supreme Court of Appeals Sabih Kanadoglu applied
to the Constitutional Court asking for closure of AK Party.
