July 1
- ''Turkish Straits Ship Traffic and Information Management System'' which was formed to provide safe passage through the straits and which cost 45 million U.S. dollars started to operate.
July 2
- The movie ''Karsi Pencere-Opposite Window'' directed by Ferzan Ozpetek, a Turkish director living in Italy, won five awards including the ''Best Movie'' in Italy.
July 4
- Approximately 100 U.S. soldiers who raided the Turkish Special Team office in Sulaymaniyah, detained 11 Turkish soldiers (three officers and eight non-commissioned officers) and took them to Kirkuk. Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul called U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell by phone, protested the incident and asked for the release of the Turkish soldiers. The incident was discussed in Turkey for a long time. Chief of General Staff Gen. Hilmi Ozkok said the incident caused the biggest crisis of trust between the Turkish and U.S. Armed Forces.

- An explosion took place in Incesu district of Ankara in a filling station. More than 100 persons were injured in the explosion.
July 6
- Turkish soldiers who were detained by U.S. soldiers in Sulaymaniyah were released.
July 8
- An armed attack was launched against Tunceli Governor Ali Cafer Akyuz near Pulumur town of eastern Tunceli province. Two security members died in the attack.
- The bill which reduced retirement age for civil servants from 65 to 61 was adopted.
July 9
- The Turkish-U.S. commission set up to investigate the detainment of Turkish soldiers in Sulaymaniyah, started its studies in General Staff.
July 11
- Opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) applied to Constitutional Court requesting the Court to cancel eight articles of the Labor Law.
July 15
- A statement was issued after the completion of the studies of Turkish-U.S. Commission regarding the detainment of Turkish soldiers, expressing sorrow over the incident which took place between the two allies and the treatment which Turkish soldiers faced in detention.
July 18
- Opposition party CHP filed a suit before the Constitutional Court for annulment of the law that reduced retirement age to 61 for civil servants and asked the Court to stop its enforcement.
- President Ahmet Necdet Sezer approved the law on fight with smuggling and the Sixth Adjustment Package.
July 23
- The Council of Ministers convened in eastern Erzurum province upon the 84th anniversary of Erzurum Congress. The cabinet signed the Seventh Adjustment Package in the meeting and sent it to the parliament.
- Bursa Chief Prosecutor's Office filed two suits against Genc Party (Young Party) leader Cem Uzan who harshly criticized Prime Minister Erdogan in a public meeting of his party held in Bursa, for ''insulting Erdogan and the government.''
July 31
- President Sezer approved the law which amended the law on encouraging tourism. The law foresees declaration of places where there are many historical and cultural assets or which have tourism potential, as ''places of cultural and tourism development region'' upon the decision of Council of Ministers. The assignment of immovable properties in those regions to native and foreign investors was facilitated by the law.
